Cheap Dirt Bikes

Having your own dirt bike is nice, but some new models are prohibitively priced. Fortunately there are ways you can buy a cheap dirt bike. Here are some suggestions.

Go with the 125cc Bikes

These are not as powerful as the 250cc or 500cc bikes, but they are not as expensive either. If you are new to dirt bikes, this is probably the best option for you anyway. New riders will have a hard time handling bigger bikes, so the 125cc is a good choice.

Look Online for Cheap Bikes

You can start by looking at online classified ads. You will see several affordable bikes there. Many of the cheap models are just slightly used, so they should still be in good shape. There are also online sites that sell new dirt bikes at discounted prices.

Do not buy the first dirt bike you see. Look at several sites so you can compare the prices. If you are buying online though, make sure you and the seller are clear on the return policy.

Visit Motorcycle Dealers and Private Sellers

Visit the local dealers around your area. There may be sales ongoing. If you see a bike you like, haggle with the salesperson. You have nothing to lose by trying so do it. You can also get cheap dirt bikes from private sellers. Driving around the neighborhood may yield some good finds too.

Payment Options

You also have to consider your payment options. Paying in cash is the best option and offers the least amount of hassle. However, you can also pay in installments. If you choose this option, make it clear to the seller how much you will pay per month. Any penalties or interest incurred for late payments must be set in the contract.

Know the Bike

This means knowing what kind of suspension you want, the strokes, engine, model and year. You must also take into account your height, weight, skills and physical fitness level.

If you do not know much about the technical aspects of the bike, ask advice from a friend. Better yet, study them. To be an adept rider, understanding of the bike’s components is a must.

Test Ride

People have different comfort levels. Do not take the manufacturer’s word that it will be comfortable for you. Try it yourself.

Some cheap models may have uncomfortable seats, so have a look around. If you have an agreement with a seller, go to the agreed upon site. Pick a site with terrain similar to the one you intend to use the bike on.

Unless you know how to inspect a dirt bike, bring along someone who can. Ask permission from the seller to try the bike. Get a feel for the bike and how it handles. Ask the seller all the questions you have in mind. If the answers are satisfactory, buy it.

If you want to buy a cheap dirt bike, you have many options, including going online and the local dealers around you. You just need to make sure the bike specs are right for you.
