125cc Motorbike

There are many kinds of 125cc motorbikes, and their specifications will vary depending on the manufacturer design. The following is a general overview of this bike.

125cc Dirt Bikes: General Characteristics

These are motorcycles made for use on off roads and racing. They are also called trail bikes or pit bikes. These bikes are constructed of light material to make them easier to manage.

These bikes have rugged suspension and knobby tires so they can go around rough terrain easily. These bikes are built with spring coil suspension; this is what allows them to traverse muddy terrain and trails.

Technical Specifications

The cc in the 125cc engine stands for cubic centimeter (the displacement size). The engines are water cooled. The 125cc is ideal for beginners, but there are larger types available like the 500cc. Many 125cc motorcycles are either two-stroke or four-stroke.

The maximum speed is 50 mph. These bikes are not made for speed; ease of handling is the main consideration. The ground clearance is low (10 inches maximum in most bikes). The fuel capacity is about a gallon. These motorbikes are not street legal because they lack turn signals and headlights.

How to Shift Gears on a 125cc Motorbike

The process is a bit different with these bikes compared to those of other dirt bikes, so follow the steps.

Step 1

Start the bike.

Step 2

Pull the clutch in. Step on the shifter and shift the bike to first gear.

Step 3

Give it a small and smooth throttle. Let the clutch out slow. Put in a bit more throttle as the bike starts to go off.

Step 4

As the dirt bike gains speed, make sure the clutch is pulled in just a bit. If the noise rises off, give it a bit more clutch. The rear brakes have to be tapped too.

Step 5

Pull the clutch when the RPMs have almost topped. Now shift to second gear; do this by lifting up the shifter lever. Let the clutch out slowly.

Step 6

Use the same technique to shift to other gears.

Warning

Do not hit the throttle hard as you take off. This could pop out the front tire.

How to Make the Bike Go Faster

The best parts to upgrade are the bore and stroke, reed block, cylinder and port. By replacing the bore and stroke your bike gets more horsepower. The increased power also makes the bike easier to handle. The bore and stroke package will come with the piston, cylinder and the head.

The reed block handles the fuel to air mix. Getting a high quality reed block will allow the engine to get more air. This will boost the throttle response and improve acceleration. Make sure to test the bike before taking it out.

The 125cc motorbike is one of the most popular bikes used for dirt bike racing. The light weight makes it ideal for new riders. With many upgrade options, it is easy for bikers to upgrade the machine to give it more speed.
